We celebrated Jonathan's 1st birthday on Sunday.
I think he was a little confused when people started showing up and he was put back in his high chair so soon after lunch.
Rather than let him make a mess of the cake that everyone else was
supposed to eat, Marci fixed cupcakes so he could have a little cake
all his size.
He didn't quite know what to make of it at first, and turned his nose up at the first taste of the gooey chocolate frosting, making me wonder if he is, in fact, my child...
... but he figured it out pretty quick and started to work demolishing it.
By the end he was pretty messy, but that didn't bother him. Mommy decided it would be easier to just give him a bath than to try and wipe all the chocolate off his face and hands.
All cleaned up, it was time to open presents. He got a little red wagon (well, rather a souped-up red wagon with wood railings, inflatable off-road tires, and a 330lb weight limit) just like the one he gets to play in at Mimi and Papa's house, a new ball, and some other toys--but I think he was most interested in the tissue paper.
He did taste-test some of his toys while cousin Lucas helped separate them from the packaging.
All in all, I think he had a pretty fun birthday, thanks to everybody who came and, of course, sugar. Yesterday was his actual birthday, which I think was pretty good, too--at least pretty good considering he had to go to the doctor's office and get his 1 year shots on his birthday. But he got to spend the day with Wella and Pops, and was pretty cheerful all evening.
