Look Who's Coming To Dinner

Last night we fixed a yummy recipe that Marci had found:

I'm not sure what it's called or what's in it; I was just responsible for the grilling part.  I do know that the meat was a flank steak and the green stuff is salsa verde.  Oh, and it was delicious.

Anyway, I'm warming up the grill and go inside to get my grilling tools, and who do I find on the deck just feet from the grill?  A little visitor had returned.

He hopped off to a patch of grass near the corner of the fence and watched me while I worked.  A little later I noticed that he was fiddling with a patch of grass, like he was digging or something and stepped closer to investigate.  I got right up on him before I realized what he was doing:

It's hard to see but there's a couple of little squirming shapes down in the hole.  Turns out our Mr. Bunny is actually a Mrs. Bunny and a momma at that!

I went back sometime after she had left and discovered why I hadn't noticed anything before:

She had done a rather meticulous job of covering over her nest with our leftover grass clippings.  Speaking of, I guess I'll have to not mow around that area for a little while until they're old enough to hop away.

There must be something about our house: we've got a couple of bird nests (here's one:),

This bird sat so still on her nest, Marci thought it was fake.

some rabbits, and a human all nurturing new life.  In fact, here's a shot of two of the mommies:

The bunny doesn't blink for photos, but the human does!

How cute!! We have watched many little baby bunnies grow up and hop away...well, they usually just disappear into the night. So what happened with the dove and her nest by the deck?  Do you have any residents in the bluebird box?  love, mom

Was the steak already marinated? And where did the salsa come from?  mom

So, what is up with the picture of "steak", then a picture of a bunny.  seems suspicious!!

Yeah, I hope I can get some pictures of some cute baby bunnies before they all hop off.  In fact, if Mrs. Bunny is smart, she'll keep them inside our fence as long as possible; I've seen a couple of unlucky bunnies flat in the road, and found where a coyote or something got to one in our front yard.

The dove flew the coop.  I've not seen her around since we got back from Amarillo.  I'm guessing her baby(ies) made it, too, because the nest looks empty.  I haven't checked on the bluebird box in a while.

The steak was already marinated, but Marci would have to tell you what was in it.  Marci made the salsa as part of the same recipe.  I was torn because the salsa was really good, but the flavor of the marinated steak by itself was also good.

Ha ha, Mark.  I was surprised when I stepped out to the grill and saw the bunny standing on the deck a few feet away.  I told her, "you're welcome to hang out here, but you can't have any of this steak."
