Marci and I are trying to make an effort to be more productive with our time. For me, that means making to-do lists. My friend Mark told me once about keeping a running list in your pocket of the 6 most important things you needed to accomplish. I use a Google Gadget for my list, but it's been just as helpful. It keeps you thinking about the stuff that needs to get done, and provides a nice sense of accomplishment when you can finally cross things off the list.
To that end, here's what I'm hoping to get done this weekend. It might be a little cool for any outdoor work, and I'm not quite ready for any big projects, so it's mostly just knocking some little nagging items out of the way. Monday I'll let you know how successful we were.
Paint Touch-up: There are some places in the nursery that need to be touched up, and I'm going to try the using some old paint on our kitchen cabinets to cover over where our masking tape lifted some spots. We also removed the one towel bar in our master bathroom (which was falling out anyway) and replaced it with two new towel bars (one just requires someone to be fairly tall to utilize it, which means it's mine)--I'll need to paint over where the old bar was, as well as a patch that we had to put in after someone read the measurements wrong.
Electrical: To match more closely to the paint, we're going to try changing out sockets and wallplates in the nursery. This was less than a fun job in the master bedroom, where there was barely enough slack in the wire for me to wire it properly. Hopefully there's a little more wire in this bedroom. I also gave up on trying to find a black wallplate to house the coax and phone jacks in the master, so I'm going to vinyl dye some white wallplates and hope they work out okay.
Tie Rack: Even though I don't wear ties to work anymore, I still need to store them somewhere for the occasions that do call for dressing up. After looking for some way to store them in the attic, I realized that it would be much simpler to just put my tie rack back up in the back of the closet. Marci did a pretty good job on this back at the apartment, so I'll probably let her handle it (that, and the other stuff is probably not safe for her to do in her condition).
Attic: The easy stuff like Christmas decorations have already been safely stowed away for next year, so it's time to turn my efforts to some of my own mess. I have boxes for some of my pricier items (like my camera and the Wii) that I want to hang onto should I decide to sell them in the future. I also need to stow our rather massive collection of Magic: The Gathering cards; hopefully, they'll still be in good condition when it comes time for me to teach the kid how to play.
Shopping: We've been needing a new headboard and some bedside lamps for a while. Now that I've made a little extra money from some side work, it's time to hit the Roomstore and some other furniture places to see what we can find. I also want to swing by Hobby Lobby to see if there's a sale going on picture stuff (so I can use my new mat cutter), and of course, stop by Best Buy since it's a Preferred Customer Weekend.
This could, of course, all change and we might not get any of it done this weekend. It's also not counting stuff like getting graphics ready for church on Sunday, and trying to do some fun stuff too.
