Did I Fall Asleep?

September 16, 2011 at 9:21 AMJeremy

So, the blog was down for about 2 months while I was waiting for GoDaddy to upgrade our hosting server, but it seems that after I got everything working again, I promptly forgot about posting anything.  I'll try to fix that.

Lack of Posts

January 19, 2010 at 4:01 PMJeremy

Yes, I'm still here.  A confluence of events (a perfect storm, if you will) has caused me not to post anything for a while:

  • Good intentions.  I had a bright idea mid-November to build an easier way for me to post a lot of pictures at once, but I haven't gotten around to implementing it yet.  This caused me to miss a few picture-heavy posts like Halloween and the Baylor Homecoming parade.
  • Work got in the way.  I had a big project due at work that's been occupying a lot of my computer time, and had me working from my work laptop rather than my home one (speaking of which...).
  • My home laptop stinks.  It's slow and the screen is such pitifully low resolution that I don't bother having it as part of my photography workflow (I organize, delete, and retouch my photos in Adobe Lightroom on my desktop PC [and then...])
  • My main desktop PC is inconvenient.  If I go back into the office/guestroom, I'm cut off from everybody else.  That also literally opens the door for little hands to fiddle with things they shouldn't (like Marci's sewing stuff).  Moreover, my desktop, being my most powerful workhorse, is generally tied up rendering videos for church when I do have a chance to use it.
  • Christmas just happened.  What can I say?  I got a lot of cool video games for Christmas; if I'm not working, houseworking, or church-working, I've got a big backlog of games to get through: Mirror's Edge, Modern Warfare 2, Arkham Asylum, Bionic Commando, Portal, Metroid Prime 2, Mega Man 9.  (I'm not counting Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks or Scribblenauts as those are portable games that I play when I would not otherwise be in front of the computer or TV). Not only that, but the trappings of the holiday itself took up some time - I took down my Christmas lights on New Year's Day and didn't get stuff put back in the attic until last weekend.
All that said, I will try to take some time to post more regularly.  Things have slowed down at work, and I'm knocking stuff out around the house, so I expect I'll be able to resume blogging at some point soon.

Driving While Stupid

July 31, 2009 at 6:00 PMJeremy

Story here: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/28/technology/28texting.html?_r=2&hp

Finally, a study to prove what we've known all along: you cannot look down at your stupid phone and keep your eyes on the road at the same time.  I don't care who you are, how long you've been doing it, what little tricks you know, it cannot be done safely.  In case you were curious, yeah, this subject ticks me off a little.  I'd normally chalk this up to a mechanism of natural selection, but when you're piloting a ton of metal on the same roadway that I have to share with your moronic little self, I'm not willing to just let nature take its course.

Like our schools have done, I want a law passed that, in addition to writing you a ticket, if you're caught using your phone while driving, the cop gets to impound your phone and you have to pay, say, $200 to get it back.  Meanwhile, they should dial, I don't know... Jupiter and waste all of your minutes.  Maybe that would stop people.

Tomorrow's News Today

February 24, 2009 at 4:59 PMJeremy

The US Navy is trying to get somebody to take their stealth ship, the Sea Shadow, off their hands and put it on display at a naval museum.

Hmm, instead, I think I might want it so I can tamper with the GPS signal of a British warship, sink it, recover the missiles, and then use them to start a war between China and Great Britain.  All so I can have some interesting news for when I launch my new news network.

Anyway, at least Brandon will get it.
