It's been a while since I've had anything to post, so here's a lesson on how NOT to take bluebonnet pictures.

It was definitely not the right time of day, but we thought going right after a nap would mean a more cooperative subject.  That didn't quite happen.  He was happy, but more interested in playing than posing.

We picked a rather pretty spot, but the road was a little bit busy.  This wouldn't have been a big problem except that Jonathan is fascinated with cars, so it was hard to get a good picture while his head swept back and forth saying "truck". . .

Inexplicably, at some point he decided to practice his role in Hamlet. . .

We didn't get very long before Jonathan wouldn't sit still for pictures.  Still, I guess that less-than-ideal pictures are better than no pictures at all.

Attack of the Mutant Sunflower

June 25, 2008 at 10:53 PMJeremy

After watering our seeded grass for several days, I noticed a little plant had sprung up.  I figured any growth was better than nothing, and that I could always pull up weeds later.  Mom came by some time and told me that it was a sunflower, so I figured I'd let it go and see if it bloomed.  Apparently, they like to be in full sun before they bloom, which meant this guy had some growing to do before he could get out from under the shade of the house:

I was really expecting the bloom to be a foot or two in diameter, but instead it seems content to put out several normal-sized blooms.  I took these shots a few days ago; now there are several blooms open, which is weighing down the top to where it's almost leaning on the swing set.  I'll probably need a machete to go after it when it finally keels over.  Once it looks fully bloomed, I'll get the ladder out to get some pictures of it, although shooting from the ground does get a nice sky backdrop:

Spring Pics

April 14, 2008 at 8:25 PMJeremy

We came home one evening to find that the plant fairy (Mom) had left a bunch of pretty flowers in our yard.

Just as pretty, some stuff from last year came back.  When we moved, Mom had helped us transplant some amarillos that had been growing inside our fence at our apartment.

Even some of the flowers that Sean and Cami (probably Cami) had planted came back around this year.

Everything just looks so bright and colorful.  It's kinda fun having more than just my little indoor ivy to take care of.
